Abstract

With acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI), the mucous membrane of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses is involved in the pathological process — acute rhinosinusitis (ARS) develops. ARS is the disease with relatively benign condition (self-limited disease), however serious complications resulting in life-threatening situations and even death are possible. Doctors of various specialties are faced with GRS in their practice, but most often they are pediatricians, general practitioners, and otolaryngologists. Disease is one of the most common reasons for unnecessary antibiotic prescriptions. The European Position Paper on Rhinosinusitis and Nasal Polyps (EPOS) has already undergone several revisions, each of which complements the previous one.. The last paper was issued on February 2020, and its main objective is to provide the updated guidelines on the evidentiary based management of acute and chronic rhinosinusitis. This article analyzes the differences in the management of acute rhinosinusitis between EPOS 2020 and previous revisions of the document.

Keywords: ENT organs, respiratory infections, rhinosinusitis, treatment.
