Abstract

Adult patients with intermittent allergic rhinitis with sensitization to grass pollen (first group, 30 subjects) and patients with allergy to grass pollen and concomitant sensitization to Alternaria alternate spores (second group, 30 subjects) were treated with mometasone furoate nasal spray of (Nasonex) 200 mcg per day and levocetirizine 5 mg daily for 30 days. In both groups of the study, there was a pronounced and rapid regression of objective data: swelling of the nasal mucosa, a decrease in the amount of secretions in the nasal cavity, and subjective clinical manifestations: nasal congestion, rhinorrhea, itching in the nose and palate, and sneezing. Patients of both groups reported improvement in quality of life indicators compared to the beginning of the study. The effectiveness of the treatment did not differ in the study groups, although the severity of the allergic process in the second group was significantly higher at the beginning of the treatment. Adverse events in the study were predictable and mild in severity, confirming the favorable safety profile of Nasonex in the treatment of intermittent allergic rhinitis.
